Before joining McDonald’s, Bensen was a senior manager for Ernst & Young in Chicago. He served large multinational audit clients and worked in mergers and acquisitions, accounting and auditing.

“After two decades with McDonald’s, few things mean more to me than this brand, but one of those things is family,” Bensen said in a statement. “I’m proud of the work we’ve done here at McDonald’s and, in particular, over the past 20 months. I look forward to seeing the system go even further and becoming the modern and progressive burger company we all know McDonald’s will be.”
Bensen earned a Bachelor of Science in accounting from St. Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, Indiana.

CEO Steve Easterbrook described Bensen as a tireless advocate and influential contributor to McDonald’s success. “We thank him for his steadfast leadership and his valuable expertise,” Easterbrook said. “We know Pete has looked forward to spending more time with his family, and we wish them all the best.”

McDonald’s will be announcing additional organizational changes in the coming weeks as a result of Bensen’s retirement.
