NORFOLK, England – Ranjit Boparan, the so-called “Chicken King” of Great Britain, may be adding turkey to his food empire, British news outlets reported.

Boparan, whose business holdings include 2 Sisters Food Group, is in the running to acquire Norfolk-based Bernard Matthews, England’s largest turkey producer. Bernard Matthews is owned by Rutland Partners, a private equity firm.

News reports state that Bernard Matthews is looking to sell because the company has been struggling financially. Other interested companies include Moy Park, a unit of Sao Paulo-based JBS SA, and Faccenda Group, a privately owned business that makes fresh chicken products and the second-largest chicken processor in the United Kingdom.
