Portland, Ore. – Radagast Pet Food, Inc. has voluntarily recalled four frozen lots of Rad Cat Raw Diet products containing 8-oz., 16-oz., 24-oz. tubs and 1-oz. free sample cups. The products are potentially contaminated with Salmonella, Listeria monocytogenes or both.

Animals eating the pet food can be affected, as well as humans who handle the products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the products or any exposed surfaces.

Consumers handling the recalled products should see a health care provider if they exhibit nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever. Salmonella can result in more serious ailments, including arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms.

Pet owners should contact their veterinarian if their pets exhibit lethargy, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever and vomiting. Some pets may have only decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. Also, otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans.

A third party lab, contracted by the FDA, found two lots of grass-fed beef showed positive tests for Listeria monocytogenes. One lot of free-range chicken tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes and one lot of free-range turkeys tested positive for both Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes.

The following affected lot codes with their ‘Best By’ dates, 62384, 62361, 62416 and 62372, are located on the lid of products in tubs and on the bottom of sample cups.
