LAKE FOREST, Calif. – Johnny Rockets continues to expand in retail outlets, announcing plans to open 14 new restaurants in malls this year. More than a third of the company’s domestic and international locations already are located in malls.

The restaurants will feature a new restaurant design that includes modern technology and new menu offerings such as craft sodas and floats that complement the chain’s milkshakes. Johnny Rockets used the occasion of the company’s 30th anniversary to implement the brand refresh, which was launched at Destiny USA Mall in Syracuse, New York.

“Over the last several years, mall management has been looking to add diversity to its food courts and expand its lunch and dinner offerings to include more full-service and fast casual concepts,” said James Walker, president of Global Operations and Development. “With franchise restaurants such as Johnny Rockets, mall executives are looking for brands with a history of strong performance and adaptability in this space.

“In our 30-year history, Johnny Rockets has always been a guest-favorite in entertaining environments, fitting well within different mall footprints,” Walker said. “As malls revamp and add higher-end retail, more unique food offerings and entertainment venues— movie theaters and bowling alleys—Johnny Rockets’ various prototype options provide something for every demographic and geographic region.”

Johnny Rockets isn’t stopping at shopping malls. The company also has successfully launched restaurants into outlet centers. The brand currently operates in 18 outlet locations, with five additional units planned for the near future.
