Cargill Value Added Protein egg processing facility in Lake Odessa, Michigan
The Lake Odessa processing facility is set to open up in Michigan.
LAKE ODESSA, Mich. – Cargill will hold a ribbon-cutting dedication event at its Cargill Lake Odessa egg processing facility on May 6. The company invested $27 million to add specialized egg processing capabilities at the facility.

“Our Lake Odessa expansion is a collaborative effort between Cargill and its customer, as well as state and local entities, to develop egg processing for an existing product that required cutting edge equipment technology,” Jay Patel, plant manager, said in a news release.  “Both we and our customer have a shared goal for growing our businesses while providing high quality egg protein to US consumers.  This investment underscores our commitment to grow our egg business and meet the needs of our customers.”

The project expanded the facility by approximately 28,000 sq. ft. and resulted in the creation of 50 new jobs which brings the workforce total to 236 employees.  Contractors completed more than 65,000 accident-free work hours during the 15-month construction schedule, Cargill added.

The expansion marks the latest improvements to the Lake Odessa facility. In 2014, contractors completed a $10.6 million expansion that added 22,500 sq. ft. of cooler and freezer storage space. Cargill acquired the plant in 1994.
