Turkey poults numbers are showing a slight decline.
WASHINGTON – Turkey eggs in incubators on April 1 slipped 2 percent to total 28.3 million, but were 2 percent higher compared to the March 1 total of 27.6 million eggs, the US Dept. of Agriculture said in its most recent Turkey Hatchery report.
Poults hatched during March dropped 6 percent to 22.8 million, which was 3 percent higher than the February 2016 total of 22.0 million poults.
Net poults placed during March totaled 22.0 million, slightly higher than the number placed during March 2015, USDA reported. Net placements advanced 3 percent from the February 2016 total of 21.3 million.
