WASHINGTON – Pilgrim’s Pride Corp. announced a recall of chicken nuggets produced at the company’s Waco, Texas, processing plant after consumers complained about extraneous plastic materials in the product, the Food Safety and Inspection Service of the US Dept. of Agriculture reported. The recall affects 40,780 lbs. of product.
FSIS said Pilgrim’s, a unit of Sao Paulo, Brazil-based JBS SA, received several consumer complaints about plastic contamination in Gold Kist Farms brand chicken nuggets. Pilgrim’s then notified FSIS personnel on April 6. There have been no reports of injury or adverse reactions related to consumption of the products, the agency noted.
The recall includes 20 lb. cardboard boxes containing two, 10-lb. clear plastic bags of fully cooked chicken nugget labeled as “GOLD KIST FARMS Fully Cooked Whole Grain Popcorn Style Chicken Patty Fritters.” The products were produced on Oct. 5, 2015.
FSIS said the affected products bear establishment number “EST. P-20728” inside the USDA mark of inspection and include package codes 5278105021, 5278105022, 5278105023, 5278105000, and 5278105001.
The chicken nuggets were shipped for institutional use to Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Kentucky, North Carolina, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas and Utah.
