The 2016 Blue Ribbon Bacon Festival recently held at the Iowa Events Center in Des Moines proved that people can have their bacon and feel the burn, too.
More than 10,000 bacon lovers attended the swine-studded event, while a variety of bacon purveyors served up more than 150 menu items to keep festival-goers in pork paradise. The theme of this year’s festival was “Body by Bacon, Sweatin’ to the Sizzle” which provided attendees an opportunity to get a workout while enjoying bacon-centric dishes.
The event took over all four levels of the event centers’ Hy-Vee Hall and Community Choice Credit Union Convention Center to accommodate bacon-inspired fitness sessions, bacon sampling booths, lectures, costume contest, bacon awards and live entertainment, among many other activities.
Meat companies serving as sponsors for the event included Farmland, Oscar Mayer, JBS USA, Iowa Pork Producers and Berkwood Farms.
