OKLAHOMA CITY — Sonic Corp. has committed to serving 100 percent cage-free egg products in its 3,500 drive-in restaurants by 2025. The company said it purchases 155 million eggs to serve 81 million breakfast burritos and breakfast sandwiches each year.

“Today’s customer wants to know their food is sourced responsibly,” said Cliff Hudson, CEO of Sonic Corp. “Our announcement today reinforces Sonic’s continued commitment to the care and welfare of the animals in our supply chain and transparent communication with our customers about our practices.”
Sonic also has pledged to purge its supply chain of gestation crates for sow housing by 2022.

Sonic’s announcement follows similar moves in the past few weeks from Target Corp., ConAgra Foods, the Campbell Soup Co., Mondelez International, Wendy’s and Denny’s.
