GREELEY, Colo. – Colorado Premium Foods made some big deli news Feb. 4.

The company announced it acquired Miami-based National Deli National, marketed as one of the nation’s leading branded deli meat companies.

“National Deli’s product line is a natural extension of our core business,” said Colorado Premium President Kevin LaFleur. “The company is a recognized brand, especially along the Eastern Seaboard of the United States, serving a wide range of restaurants, traditional delis, pubs, casinos and country clubs.”

National Deli, originally founded in 1982 as the non-kosher division of Hebrew National, has established a reputation for high-quality raw and cooked meats, including corned beef, roast beef, pastrami, prime rib, and hot dogs.

“The entire National Deli management team is excited about the synergies and expertise that Colorado Premium brings to the business as we continue our mission of bringing the finest quality raw and cooked deli meats to our customers,” said Jehan Saulnier, who joined National Deli in 2014 as president and CEO. “Our focus will be to continue and improve upon the level of product quality, product choice, and customer service that our customers have come to know and trust.”

This is Colorado Premium’s second major acquisition in the past two years. In July 2014, the company acquired Buedel Fine Meats & Provisions, and Vlcek Fine Meats Inc., both based in Bridgeview, Illinois. The acquired companies, unified under the Buedel Fine Meats & Provisions brand name, continue to operate from Bridgeview.

Founded in 1998 by former ConAgra/Monfort executives Kevin LaFleur and Don Babcock, Colorado Premium markets a variety of retail and restaurant-ready beef, poultry and other protein products under its own brands and more than 60 private-label brands to customers in the United States, Central America, the Caribbean, the Philippines, Taiwan, UAE and more.

With the National Deli acquisition, the company and its subsidiaries operate four processing facilities and two distribution centers located in Colorado, Illinois and Florida.

“National Deli has an immensely talented management team and staff,” LaFleur said. “They have a commitment to quality assurance and a standard of excellence that matches our own. I’m especially pleased to say that the management team and National Deli’s employees will stay in place and will continue to operate from the company’s operations and distribution center in Miami.”
