OTTAWA, Ontario – Calgary-based Paolini’s Sausage and Meats launched a recall of sausage products on concerns the items may be contaminated withE. coliO157:H7, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) reported.

The agency said the sausages were distributed in the province of Alberta and may have been sold by other retailers through Feb. 5. CFIA triggered the recall during an investigation of a foodborne illness in Alberta. However, there have been no illnesses definitively linked to Paolini’s sausage products, the agency noted.

Alberta Health Services (AHS) said the outbreak includes 14 confirmed cases ofE. coliO157:H7. Testing linked at least two of the 14 cases with a specific pork sausage product sold by a Calgary-based retailer, AHS reported.

The affected products include Hungarian Farmer Sausage, Hot Hungarian Farmer Sausage, Mexican Twist Sausage, Buffalo Hungarian Sausage, Wesfalian Smokies, Onion Mettwurst / Frishe Zwiebel Mettwurst, Fine Mettwurst , Coarse Mettwurst, Ritterwurst /Pfeffer-sackchen and Landjager.
