Ernesto's Pork Sausage
Undeclared sheep casings lead to recall of pork sausages.

WASHINGTON – New York Style Sausage Co. in Sunnyvale, Calif., announced a recall of approximately 4,040 lbs. of pork sausage because of undeclared sheep casings, the Food Safety and Inspection Service of the US Dept. of Agriculture reported. The undeclared sheep casings may cause allergic reactions in consumers who are allergic to sheep proteins.

FSIS said the problem was discovered when a customer observed pork sausage labels that did not declare sheep casings on the finished product label. New York Style Sausage then notified FSIS. There have been no confirmed adverse reactions due to consumption of these products, FSIS noted.

The pork sausages were produced on various dates between July 1, 2015, and Jan. 7, 2016. Affected products include 5-lb. bulk boxes containing packages of “Golden Gate Meat Company Ernesto’s Pork Sausage.”

The products bear establishment number “EST. 9027” inside the USDA mark of inspection, and were produced for a single distributor in California for institutional use.
