Private label bacon topped IRI’s list of top-selling refrigerated bacon brands in the US from January 2014 through January 2015, accumulating about $949 million in sales.

Chicago-based IRI, a market research company offering retail market intelligence and analysis focused on the consumer packaged goods industry, listed the Oscar Mayer Co., owned by Kraft Heinz, as the No. brand, garnering $855 million sales.

Hormel Foods Corp.’s Black Label brand was a distant third, garnering $366 million in sales. Wright, with $334 million, and Smithfield, with $210 million, rounded out the top five in sales.

Rounding out the top 10 are:

• Farmland, $207 million;
• Gwaltney Foods, $96 million;
• Hormel (other), $93 million;
• Bar-S, $87.4 million; and
• Butterball, $71.6 million.

Total sales were through supermarkets, drugstores, mass market retailers, military commissaries and select club and dollar retail chains for the 52 weeks ended Jan. 25, 2015.
