McDonald's franchisees in Southern California have launched an app featuring local and national meal deals.

LOS ANGELES – Members of the McDonald’s Operators Association of Southern California (MOASC) unveiled a new app that will deliver national and local deals to customers’ smartphones. Customers can download the app to their iOS or Android devices. But it’s only available for the first eight million downloads, and users must register to receive national offers.

“Digital has become a really big focus at McDonald's,” Julia Vander Ploeg, vice president of digital at McDonald’s USA, said in a news release. “The mobile app will transform how our customers engage with us by removing physical boundaries so they can connect to McDonald’s any time or place.

“While McDonald’s and our franchisees have partnered to create strong, valuable national and local offers for our customers, the app is fundamentally local and a way for customers to interact and engage with their everyday McDonald’s restaurant.”

To get consumers on board with the new app, McDonald’s is offering a free large sandwich, and customers can earn a free McCafe drink after five McCafe drink purchases. Local deals in Southern California include buy one, get one for breakfast sandwiches, free Happy Meal with premium salad purchases, $4 off any purchase of $20 or more and $1 off any premium burger. MOASC said new app specials will rotate each week.

“Connecting with our customers is always a priority and now we can do it digitally,” Clay Paschen III, president, MOASC, said in a news release. “We look forward to gleaning insights that will allow for customized deals and exclusive promotions only available to users.”
