MINNEAPOLIS – David MacLennan was elected chairman of the board at Cargill. Greg Page will step down as executive chairman, but will continue to serve on the board as an executive director of the company.

MacLennan, who also serves as president and CEO, joined Cargill in 1991 and has served in various leadership positions within the company including the financial, risk management, energy and animal protein businesses in the United States, London and Geneva.

He left the company in 2002 to join US Bancorp Piper Jaffray where he spent two years as president of fixed income capital markets before returning to Cargill. MacLennan was named CFO and elected to the Cargill board of directors in 2008. In 2011, he was elected president and COO and became CEO in 2013.

“The board appreciates David's leadership and management of the company,” Page said in a statement. “We have the highest confidence he will deliver long term growth for Cargill. Now is the time for him to lead the board as well.”

MacLennan holds a bachelor’s degree from Amherst College and a MBA from the Univ. of Chicago.
