OZARK, Ala. – Wayne Farms LLC broke ground on a new feed mill in Ozark, Ala. The new facility will support the company’s expansion of a fresh poultry processing facility in Dothan, Ala. The company expects output at the feed mill to reach 25,000 tons of feed once fully operational.

The new facility will employ approximately 88 workers in jobs such as manufacturing, feed hauling and administrative positions. Annual payroll is estimated at $3.1 million. Wayne Farms will add 42,000 sq. ft. to the existing structure at its processing plant in Dothan. In total, the new feed mill and the Dothan fresh processing facility expansion will be adding approximately 588 jobs to the southern Alabama area.

“We look forward to expanding our business in Alabama,” said Elton Maddox, president and CEO of Wayne Farms. “A robust local workforce, strong support from the community leaders and businesses in the area, and the opportunity to more efficiently provide feed for our company, makes the decision to invest here an easy one.”

Wayne Farms, a subsidiary of Continental Grain Company, ranks as the sixth-largest vertically integrated poultry producer in the United States with annual sales of more than $1.9 billion, according to the company. The company owns and operates 11 fresh and further-processed poultry facilities throughout the Southeast, produces more than 2.6 billion lbs. of poultry products annually and employs more than 8,900 workers.
