SIOUX CITY, Iowa –Sioux City’s city council approved a traffic study for a pork processing plant proposed by Seaboard Foods and Triumph Foods, according to local news reports.

The plant would be built on property in the Bridgeport West Industrial Park in Sioux City. The study will determine if traffic adjustments need to be made around the facility. Construction on the plant was scheduled to begin this summer.

The plant is expected to process about 3 million market hogs per year operating a single shift. At full processing capacity, the plant will employ approximately 1,100 individuals. Triumph Foods is owned exclusively by pork producers and Seaboard Foods is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Seaboard Corporation.
