ST. LOUIS – The Esquire Network is launching a six-episode cooking competition called “The Next Great Burger.” The series debuts July 21.

The first five episodes of the competition will feature contestants who hail from a variety of backgrounds: Backyard barbecue home cooks, sous chefs, food truck owners and up-and-coming culinary hopefuls. Six finalists will compete for $25,000 and bragging rights to the best burger on Aug. 25.

Comedian Owen Benjamin and Chef JJ Johnson will host the show. Benjamin has appeared in the TBS series “Sullivan & Son,” “The Tonight Show” and “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.” Johnson was named to Forbes’ 30 Under 30 in the Food & Wine category (2014), Zagat’s 30 Under 30 (2014) and an Eater Young Gun (2014). The show was filmed in St. Louis, Mo., by Coolfire Studios in association with Budweiser for Esquire Network.
