SAN FRANCISCO — An ammonia leak at the Columbus Salame meat processing plant resulted in thousands of people being forced to evacuate from an industrial area of South San Francisco, according to CBS 5.

Luis Da Silva, South San Francisco fire marshal, said the leak was reported at about 5:45 a.m. this morning at the plant. The leaking valve was finally closed around 8 a.m.

One person was taken to an area hospital after being in close proximity to the leak, and at least two other people transported themselves to a hospital, Mr. Da Silva said.
