WASHINGTON – The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for meat, poultry, fish and eggs advanced 1.4 percent in June, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics for the US Department of Labor. The overall food index climbed 0.3 percent during the month.
BLS attributed more than three-fourths of the increase of food at home index to the eggs index which jumped 18.3 percent in June. The CPI for beef also increased by 0.9 percent. The food at home index rose 0.4 percent after declining in each of the three previous months, the agency reported.
Meanwhile the index for meats, poultry, fish, and eggs has increased 3.3 percent over the last 12 months, with the index for beef rising 10.9 percent and the eggs index up 21.8 percent.
The CPI for food away from home climbed 0.2 percent in June and has risen 3.0 percent over the past year.
