Dubuque, Iowa is the fourth location for production of Spam

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Hormel Foods Corp.’s Progressive Processing LLC facility is now producing Spam. The line was added following a $36 million expansion at the Dubuque plant.

Progressive Processing opened in 2010. The facility covers 348,000 sq. ft., and supports production of Hormel Compleats microwave meals and Hormel and Valley Fresh chunk chicken. The Dubuque facility achieved LEED Gold status in 2010, making it the first manufacturing plant at that time to be LEED certified at any level.

Spam also is produced in Fremont, Neb., Denmark and South Korea. Hormel has produced more than 7 billion cans of Spam since 1937, according to company information. The product is sold in 99 percent of grocery stores in the United States in addition to nearly 50 countries.
