WATERTOWN, NY – A local developer and a group of farmers have big plans for a meat processing facility to serve New York State meat producers. The group announced plans to build a $20 million meat plant at Jefferson County Corporate Park, according to local news reports.

If developed, the New York Meat Company would be able to process 100,000 animals per year. Producers within a 100-mile radius of Watertown would be able to process cattle, sheep and pigs at the plant.

The farmers and developer Mike Lundy of Carthage, NY, plan to have the facility completed by 2017. The new plant would create at least 60 new jobs. The group currently is looking for investors and government grants to fund the project, according to news reports.
