ST. LOUIS – Post Holdings Inc. expects avian influenza will cost the company’s subsidiary, Michael Foods, $20 million in fiscal 2015 on adjusted EBITDA. The figure is in line with the company’s previous guidance.

The company experienced its first brush with highly pathogenic avian influenza in April when layer hens at an Iowa-based third party supplier became infected with the virus. On May 27, the company reported that a company-owned flock in Nebraska tested positive for AI, but several rounds of additional tests did not confirm the presumptive positive. Post Holdings said the US Department of Agriculture released the flock from quarantine today.

As a result, the company said its total affected egg supply is now approximately 25 percent of its annualized egg volume commitments.
