WASHINGTON – Use of an unapproved chemical product prompted a recall of approximately 2,191 lbs. of chicken and 21 lbs. of turkey products, the Food Safety and Inspection Service of the US Department of Agriculture reported. Affected products include various weights of whole or cut chicken and turkey parts.

AA Poultry Processing, LLC in Ridgeland, Wis., launched the recall after FSIS in-plant personnel discovered the problem during routine verification duties. The company was using trichloro-s-triazinetrione, which also is marketed for use in the treatment of water in swimming pools, spas and hot tubs. No illnesses or adverse reactions have been reported, FSIS noted.

The whole and cut chicken and turkey pieces were produced on various dates from May 4 through May 11. The affected products bear the establishment number “P-45525” inside the USDA mark of inspection.

Live poultry was brought to the establishment for processing. The carcasses later were returned to their original owners in Wisconsin.
