OAKWOOD, Ga. – Wayne Farms announced plans to expand the company's Dothan, Ala., poultry processing plant. The project will double the plant's processing capacity.

Wayne Farms will add 42,000 sq. ft. to the existing structure which covers 105,000 sq. ft. The company expects construction to be completed by mid-2016. Currently, 356 employees work at the Dothan plant. The facility expansion will add 500 jobs.

“Wayne Farms is excited for the opportunity to expand our business and bring jobs to the local area,” said Clint Rivers, COO. “With the rising demand for chicken we have an opportunity to increase our output.”

Wayne Farms acquired the Dothan plant from Salisbury, Md.-based Perdue Farms in 2012. The deal included the processing plant, hatchery and a feed mill and grow-out facility in Florida.
