TORONTO, Ontario – Heinz Canada announced a recall of one variety of the company's baby food because a small number of dented or popped safety caps were found. The company said the potential loss of seal resulting from a popped safety lid could cause spoilage. No illnesses have been reported.
The affected product includes two codes of Heinz brand Strained Chicken with Broth in 100 mL jars. The products bear a UPC of 0 571660 7. Codes on the affected products are 2016SE26 and 2016DE12.
“Heinz Canada is taking immediate action to ensure that any affected product is removed from store shelves,” the company said in a statement. “We recommend that consumers do not consume the affected product and contact Heinz for a full refund.”
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency said the recall was triggered by the agency's inspection activities. A food safety investigation is underway that may lead to the recall of addition products, CFIA noted.
