MARKHAM, Ontario – Sofina Foods Inc. announced plans to transition a former pork plant to process turkeys.

The company said there is no official date to commence work on the plant. However, Sofina said the company anticipates commissioning the facility in late 2015.

"The addition of the Mitchell facility is evolutionary to our current operations in Dublin, Ontario," said Jeff McDowell, vice president, Poultry Value Chain. "The Mitchell facility provides Sofina Foods with the ability to provide fresh turkey to our further processing operations in London and Brampton, confirms our commitment to the Ontario turkey industry, and Ontario turkey farmers.

"This is the largest single investment in the Canadian turkey industry in over 25 years," he added.

Sofina Foods is a privately owned Canadian company with headquarters in Markham, Ontario. The company manufactures and distributes further-processed pork, beef and poultry products for retail and foodservice customers in Canada, the United States and other countries.
