OAKWOOD, GA. — Employees from Wayne Farms LLC spent the July 4 holiday feeding traveling members of the U.S. military inside the Jean R. Amos U.S.O. Center at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport for the third year in a row. The event was the latest involving the company, the United Service Organizations (U.S.O.) and Operation Chefs Unite.

The company’s association with the U.S.O. began when Caroline Morris, Wayne Farms’ executive research chef and a member of the Georgia chapter of the American Culinary Federation (A.C.F.), learned about an A.C.F. program called "Operation Chefs Unite." The program pairs local chefs with the U.S.O. to help cook for traveling troops. Ms. Morris Wayne Farms about this program and it has become a favorite cause of the company with employees serving troops food donated by the company multiple times since 2007.

"It’s been amazing how quickly and enthusiastically employees at our company have adopted this cause," Ms. Morris said. "Members of our armed forces dedicate their lives to keeping our country safe and free, and taking a few hours during a holiday to show how much we appreciate them is something we’re happy to do."

More than 60 lbs. of Wayne Farms hot wings, chicken roulades and various side items were served during this event. The company also fed troops at the U.S.O. on Valentine’s Day earlier this year and plans to do the same this fall on Sept. 11.
