MILWAUKEE — Two brothers are suspects in connection with a fire that started the night of July 5, burned for more than three days and destroyed a major portion of the Patrick Cudahy Inc. meat processing plant in Cudahy, Wis. The blaze resulted in more than $50 million in damages, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

One brother, Kurtis Popp, was taken into custody Wednesday night, and police were attempting to secure Joshua Popp, who is a Marine reservist living in California. Mr. Popp, who served two tours in Iraq and was awarded the Purple Heart, is cooperating with authorities, according to his mother.

The brothers allegedly held a party in their mother’s back yard, while she wasn’t home, on the evening of July 5th. The stricken plant is visible from her backyard. Officials earlier determined a military flare exploded before landing on the plant’s roof July 5, accidentally starting the fire.
