ROCKHAMPTON, Queensland – Asbestos in several buildings at a JBS Australia meat-processing plant in central Queensland could close the plant indefinitely, according to news reports. The plant was hit by Cyclone Marcia on Feb. 19.

News reports state that the roof, which was ripped off during the storm, is made of asbestos. Hazardous materials crews must safely remove the debris before it can be replaced.


Roughly 700 workers have been affected. The plant could be closed for a month or longer, according to news reports.
