BOISE – Agri Beef Co. recently became the first United States-based producer to export beef and pork to Myanmar, the company announced.

More than 500 lbs. of ribeye, strip loin, tenderloin, beef cheek meat, pork loin and bacon were airfreighted in the initial shipment, which is estimated to arrive in Myanmar this week, according to Agri Beef. Agri Beef exports beef and pork products to more than 30 countries, including Japan, South Korea and Taiwan.

“With our established presence in Southeast Asia, we continue to see consumer demand for quality beef and pork products increase throughout that region,” said Jay Theiler, Agri Beef’s executive director of marketing. “We’re not only excited to be growing our global business, but honored by the opportunity to provide premium products from here in the Northwest to the people of Myanmar. We hope it is the beginning of a long and successful relationship.”

Agri Beef's relationship with Myanmar developed from an April 2014 meeting with a distributor attending a trade show in Singapore. A growing middle class in Myanmar is driving demand for high-quality meat products. The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) noted the middle-class purchasing power in Asia is projected to increase by $25 trillion by 2030.
