WASHINGTON – K. Heeps Inc. of Allentown, Pa., launched a recall of approximately 152,010 lbs. of roast beef products that may contain undeclared milk and wheat, the Food Safety and Inspection Service of the US Dept. of Agriculture reported. The agency said a vegetable flavoring used in the frozen, pureed roast beef products may contain the allergens.

FSIS personnel discovered the problem during routine in-plant verification activities. There have been no reports of adverse reactions related to consumption of these products, the agency noted.


Products subject to the recall were produced on various dates between Dec. 18, 2014 and Nov. 20. The items include:

• 4.5-lb. boxes containing 24, 3-oz. trays of “CafePuree MEAT VARIETY PACK”
• 4.5-lb. boxes containing 24, 3-oz. trays of “CafePuree SAVORY ROAST BEEF”
• 4.5-lb. boxes containing 24, 3-oz. trays of “SYSCO IMPERIAL MEAT VARIETY PACK”
• 4.5-lb. boxes containing 24, 3-oz. trays of “SYSCO SAVORY ROAST BEEF.”

The affected products bear establishment number “EST. 9379” or “EST. 9379A” inside the USDA mark of inspection. FSIS said the products were shipped to distributors in Pennsylvania and exported to Canada for institutional use.
