SHAWNEE MISSION, Kan. – The Kansas Department of Health and Environment granted Shawnee Mission, Kan.-based Seaboard Foods a permit to build a new hog feeding complex in Greeley County.

Seaboard is permitted to build nine lagoons to store waste from 120 finishing barns housing about 1,100 pigs each. The addition of the new facility will grow the company’s operations in Greeley County to 330,000 mature hogs.

“The permit is for the Ladder Creek West Farm to be located in Greeley County, Kan., about 9 miles west of our existing Ladder Creek Farm,” the company told MEAT+POULTRY. “We have not set a construction schedule.”
