WASHINGTON – Cattle and calves on feed for slaughter totaled 10.8 million in head on Nov. 1, the National Agricultural Statistics Service of the US Dept. of Agriculture said in its Cattle on Feed report. The inventory advanced 2 percent above the year-ago period.

October placements in feedlots slipped 4 percent to 2.28 million head; net placements totaled 2.21 million head, USDA reported. For the month, placements of cattle and calves weighing less than 600 lbs. were 645,000 head; 600-699 lbs. were 530,000 head; 700-799 lbs. were 431,000 head; and 800 lbs. and greater were 675,000 head.


Marketings of fed cattle totaled 1.63 million head in October, USDA reported. This represents a 3 percent decline for October 2014, and the lowest marketings for October since the series began in 1996. Meanwhile, other disappearance dropped 23 percent from a year ago to total 75,000 head during October.
