Dennis Treacy, executive vice president and chief sustainability officer for Smithfield Foods, plans to retire in 2016

SMITHFIELD, Va. – Dennis Treacy, executive vice president and chief sustainability officer for Smithfield Foods plans to retire from the company effective Dec. 31, 2016.

“Smithfield’s continuation of the role of chief sustainability officer underscores the company’s ongoing commitment to sustainability, and ensures that these programs will continue to evolve and improve over time,” Treacy said in a statement. “At Smithfield, we have always said that sustainability is a journey, and while I am extremely proud of what we have accomplished, we will always have more work to do. As experienced leaders, I am extremely confident in Keira and Stewart's ability to carry out this work.”

Treacy will serve full time as president of the Smithfield Foundation until his retirement. He also will continue to perform select government affairs and sustainability duties, including his work as a member of Smithfield’s Public Affairs and Sustainability Committee. Additionally, Treacy will represent the company with several external organizations and associations throughout 2016.

“Dennis has been an invaluable member of the Smithfield family for the past 14 years and his efforts have enabled Smithfield to set the standard for sustainability in our industry,” C. The Smithfield family congratulates him on his role with the Smithfield Foundation and wishes him all the best in his retirement.”

Stewart Leeth will succeed Treacy as chief sustainability officer on Jan. 1. He currently serves as vice president of regulatory affairs and sustainability. Additionally, Keira Lombardo, who currently is senior vice president of corporate affairs, will assume all of Treacy’s responsibilities in the areas of sustainability, government affairs, communication and “people” on Jan. 1, the company said.
