WASHINGTON – Great Lakes Smoked Meats, Lorain, Ohio, recalled approximately 2,863 lbs. of smoked salami after an internal records review found the product was kept at an unsafe temperature during the cooling process, the Food Safety Inspection Service of the US Department of Agriculture reported.

The salami may contain
Clostridium perfringensas a result of the temperature abuse, the agency added. FSIS and the company have received no reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products.

Great Lakes Smoked Meats produced the salami on Dec. 12, 2014 through Dec. 14, 2014. The affected products include approximately 2.25-2.3 lb. vacuum-packed sticks of “SMOKEHOUSE DELI KARPATSKAYA SMOKED COOKED SALAMI”, FSIS said. The establishment number is “1029 SEOH” and is printed inside the Cooperative Interstate Shipment mark of inspection. “Sell By” dates for the salami range from Mar. 16, 2015 to Mar. 19, 2015.

Great Lakes Smoked Meats is a participant in USDA's Cooperative Interstate Shipment (CIS) program. The program allows state-inspected plants to operate as federally-inspected facilities, under specific conditions, and ship product in interstate commerce and internationally. The salami was shipped to retail locations in California, New York and Pennsylvania, according to FSIS.
