DURANT, Okla. – The former J.C. Potter’s pork processing plant, with roots in Durant that date back more than 50 years, garnered the attention and more ultimately the financial interest of BrucePac Meat Product Designers, based in Woodburn, Ore. Most recently doing business as JCP Specialty Foods, the company closed last year and has been purchased by BrucePac, a manufacturer of cooked poultry, pork and beef products for foodservice and private label customers.

The company operates two other processing plants and plans to renovate and reopen the Durant plant within eight months, according to local news reports. A local official says the company has been negotiating with economic developers in Durant for about 90 days and has already hired some of the former JCP employees back with plans to ramp up to a double shift with as many as 200 workers.

A message left with BrucePac CEO Glen Golonski, seeking details on the project wasn’t returned at press time.
