Washington – The US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service announced the recall of 33, 948 lbs. of ground beef products produced by Sutton, Mass.-based J&G Foods Inc. The products are suspected of containing plastic material and were produced on Dec. 23, 2014 and were shipped to retailers in Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

Products included in the recall include:

1 lb. Wegman’s vacuum-packed Organic 93% Lean, Grass-Fed Ground Beef and packages in addition to 3-packs contiaining 1 lb. packages of Wegman’s Organic 93% Lean Grass-Fed Ground Beef. The products are labeled with the establishment number 8466 with a use or freeze-by date of Jan. 16, 2015. Retail customers notified the company of the issue after receiving complaints that the ground beef contained small malleable pieces of plastic, according to the USDA. No illnesses or adverse reactions have been reported as a result of the contamination.
