KFC and Pizza Hut restaurants in China are struggling in the wake of a food safety scandal.

LOUISVILLE – Yum! Brands revised its guidance for same-store sales in China following a food safety scandal involving a former supplier.

Yum! estimated a 13 percent drop in same-store sales for the third quarter ended Aug. 31, the company said in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The chain operates KFC and Pizza Hut restaurants in China. The company also said it plans to pursue legal action against OSI and Shanghai HUSI to recover damages related to the incident.

"While sales are beginning to rebound, they continue to be negative," the company said in the filing. "Our brands have proven resilient over time and we expect this to be the case with this situation as well."
