CULIACAN, Mexico – SuKarne announced plans to build a new beef processing plant in the Mexican state of Durango. The project will cost an estimated 8 billion pesos ($600.9 million), and will make the plant the largest and most modern of its kind in Latin America.

In a statement, the company said the plant will house 250,000 head of cattle with an annual output of 800,000 head of cattle. Sixty-percent of the plant's production will be slated for exports. The new plant is expected to create 12,000 new jobs. SuKarne estimates the plant’s economic impact will equal 25 percent of the agricultural GDP of Durango and Coahuila.

SuKarne is a leading beef exporter based in Mexico. The company operates four processing plants that convert manure into compost. The company also produces 1.4 million tons of feed for its cattle. Additionally, SuKarne runs three company-owned rendering plants to process bones, fat and blood from SuKarne’s meat processing plants.
