SMITHFIELD, Va. – A new Web-based video series takes a behind-the-scenes look at Smithfield Foods' sustainability program. Smithfield Foods is a subsidiary of Hong Kong-based WH Food Group.

"Smithfield Foods now is well into the second decade of incorporating sustainability throughout every aspect of our business," said Larry Pope, president and CEO. "It is ingrained in our culture."

The first video features Pope, who provides his insights regarding the importance of sustainability to the company. Also appearing in the video is Dennis Treacy, chief sustainability officer, who discusses how Smithfield makes decisions about sustainable production practices.

The second installment, scheduled to launch in October, will highlight Ashley DeDecker, Ph.D., who works at Murphy-Brown LLC, a Smithfield Foods subsidiary. DeDecker, who is the assistant director of production research, has received several awards for her work in animal care and welfare including the National Pork Board Swine Innovation Award in 2011.

The third video features Kinesha Allen, environmental manager for Smithfield-Farmland. Allen has a broad range of environmental responsibilities with specific emphases on Environmental Management Systems (EMS) and facility inspections. She also has designed award-winning environmental community outreach programs. The third video will be released in December.
