TEMPLETON, Calif. – The Templeton Livestock Market will have its last sale in October after a 70-year run, according to news reports.

The market has been a fixture in Templeton, Calif. since the 1940s, according to the Visalia Livestock & Templeton Livestock Market website. In addition to live auctions, the market offered value-added services such as vaccination and source and age verification; video and internet marketing; and processing facilities.

Randy Baxley, former owner of the market, sold the property. The market will be torn down, and a housing development will be built in its place. Once Templeton Livestock Market closes, local livestock owners and buyers can continue to receive service from the livestock auction in Visalia — which is roughly 100 miles from Templeton.

Operators of the market tried to reassure customers in a notice posted on the Visalia Livestock & Templeton Livestock Market website:

“Rest assured we are committed to continue to serve the great cattlemen and cattlewomen of our area and will continue to provide our long history of expert cattle marketing. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask, until you hear it from us don't buy into the rumors that are being circulated. Thanks for your support, we really appreciate it!”
