WASHINGTON – Broiler-type egg sets and chicks place were up during the week ending Aug. 9, the US Department of Agriculture's National Agricultural Statistics Service reported.

Hatcheries in the United States 19 state weekly program set 206 million eggs in incubators for the week, up 2 percent from a year ago. Average hatchability for chicks hatched during the week was 83 percent.


Chicks placed for meat production as part of the 19 state weekly program totaled 169 million, a 2 percent increase from last year. Cumulative placements from Dec. 29, 2013, through Aug. 9 were 5.50 billion. Cumulative placements declined slightly from the same period a year ago.
