WASHINGTON – Perdue, Gainesville, Ga., recalled approximately 15,306 lbs. of Applegate brand frozen chicken nuggets because the product may be contaminated with small pieces of plastic, the US Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service reported.

Product subject to the recall includes 8-oz. boxes of “APPLEGATE naturals CHICKEN NUGGETS”. The product was produced on Feb. 5 with a sell by date of Feb. 5, 2015, and bear the establishment number "P2617" inside the USDA mark of inspection. The chicken nuggets were shipped nationwide.

The company received consumer complaints that small pieces of plastics were in the Applegate Naturals chicken nuggets. Applegate withdrew the chicken nuggets from the market on Aug. 8, but concerns remain that consumers may still have the product in their freezers, FSIS noted. There have been no reports of injury or illness from eating the chicken nuggets.
