WASHINGTON – Broiler egg sets and chicks placed were higher for the week ending July 19, the US Department of Agriculture noted in its Broiler Hatchery report.

Hatcheries in the 19 state weekly program set 206 million eggs in incubators during the week ending July 19, 2014, up 3 percent from a year ago. Average hatchability for chicks hatched during the week was 83 percent.


Broiler-type chicks placed climbed slightly higher for the week. Broiler growers in the 19 State weekly program placed 167 million chicks for meat production.

Cumulative placements from Dec. 29, 2013, through July 19 were 4.98 billion, a slight decline compared to the same period a year ago.
