LONDON – Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt ordered an investigation into food handling practices at facilities belonging to 2 Sisters Food Group, according to local news reports.

At Hunt's request, the Food Standards Authority (FSA) will conduct a full safety audit. The agency reviewed
The Guardian's documentation, but found no risk to the public, according to news reports. The FSA investigation follows reports byThe Guardiannewspaper alleging food safety lapses at two of Great Britain's leading poultry processors, 2 Sisters and Faccenda Foods. Both companies have denied any wrongdoing.

The Guardianclaims that chicken carcasses that fell on the floor were returned to the production line; breakdowns in evisceration equipment led to offal piling up on the plant floor and dirty water in scalding tanks was not replaced for days.
