LAUREL, Miss. – Sanderson Farms Inc. is evaluating a site in Cumberland County, North Carolina as the location for a new poultry processing plant, according to a Fayetteville Observerreport.

An official with the company said Sanderson continues to evaluate new sites to expand poultry processing operations. Sanderson officials visited Cumberland County to gather information on a potential site even as construction continues on the company's new poultry facility in Palestine, Texas. The Palestine facility has a processing capacity of 1.250 million head of chickens per week. Product is intended for the big bird deboning market.

Sanderson's Q2 profit more than doubled, the company reported in May. For the three months ended April 30, Sanderson reported net income of $51 million, or $2.21 per share, compared to net income of $24.4 million, or $1.06 per share in the comparable year-ago period.
