IOWA CITY, IOWA — A bankruptcy judge approved the sale of Agriprocessors Inc., Postville, Iowa, to SHF Industries on July 20 for $8.5 million. SHF was recently formed by Canadian plastics manufacturer Hershey Friedman and his son-in-law, Daniel Hirsch, according to The Associated Press.

The judge’s approval ends months of speculation about the future of the Postville plant, which will continue to process kosher meat, Mr. Friedman said. The plant was formerly the largest processor of kosher meat in the U.S.

In May 2008, the Postville plant was raided and 389 people were detained on immigration charges. Several senior Agriprocessors managers were charged with labor law violations.
