CHICAGO – Sysco, a leading foodservice distribution company, has added Schmacon to its stable of products, according to Schmaltz Products, LLC which makes the beef alternative to pork bacon.

Schmacon, beef slices that have been smoked, cured and covered in a light glaze, cooks like bacon and takes on the same crispy texture as bacon. Schmacon will make its official debut at the National Restaurant Association Show May 17-20.

In addition to Sysco, some universities, restaurants and clubs are serving the product.

“Schmacon is delicious and unlike anything else on the market,” said Howard Bender, CEO of Schmaltz Products and the entrepreneur behind the new product. “Beef factors heavily into deli menus, and seeing what was going on with bacon, I envisioned a beef product that could capture some of the same magic.”
