AURORA, Mo. – State food safety officials temporarily suspended custom exempt processing operations at Aurora Grand Meat Co., the Missouri Dept. of Agriculture's Meat (MDA) and Poultry Inspection Program reported.

The agency said a May 9 inspection uncovered unsanitary conditions within the facility. Custom exempted processing permissions were suspended and will remain suspended until the company completes a satisfactory inspection, the agency said.

Meat and poultry companies operating under Missouri's custom processing exemption cannot sell product to the public. Custom exempt processing is for livestock owners for their own consumption, and all packaging is specially marked, the department noted.

The MDA and the Missouri Dept. of Health and Senior Services said individuals who have recently conducted business with Aurora Grand Meat Co. should carefully examine all items processed by the facility. Customers are encouraged to contact their local health officials with any food safety-related questions.
